What a year it has been! For better or worse, 2016 was a year of significant changes in so many aspects of our lives, especially here in Arizona.  2017 will bring a new sheriff, Paul Penzone, to Maricopa County and a higher minimum wage.

We’ll be waiting to see what, if any, impact this will have on local law enforcement and our criminal justice system.

Other Changes That Have Happened

Arizona voters also declined to make recreational marijuana use legal, but the win-loss margin was narrow, and advocates are still aiming for a new proposition on ballots, as well as working with the legislature.

We are particularly excited that Scottsdale is now participating in Veteran’s Court, and with more information finally coming forth on Veterans’ issues, we are hopeful that these amazing men and women will receive more of the resources needed to put an end to veteran homelessness, suicides, and sub-par physical and mental healthcare.

Celebrating the New Year

As usual, Phoenix and Scottsdale are rolling out the red carpet for NYE 2016, and a list of events can be found here, including parties, events, and concerts galore.

If you’re not in the mood to take a last-minute trip to Vegas, never fear; Phoenix and Scottsdale have your ticket to everything from glamorous soirees to punk rock shows.

Are you into college football? We have plenty of that, too, and it’s not too late to see the Tigers and Buckeyes duke it out in the Fiesta Bowl.

Parties and crowds not so much your thing?  You might have to wait a few days for the rain to clear, but Arizona is home to first-rate hikes and scenery, so make 2017 the year you throw your name in the lottery for the Wave.

For the budget-conscious, here’s a list of all the days you can enjoy our National Parks for free!

Be Smart When You Drive This Year

No matter what you do, remember that Arizona has the strictest and harshest DUI laws, and police are cracking down on traffic violations across the state.  Saturation patrols will be out to wrap up holiday DUI enforcement, so make sure that you and your loved ones have a sober driver, know your limits, and as always, know your rights (and maybe a good defense lawyer, too)!

Have a safe and Happy NYE and enjoy all our wonderful city has to offer. We are coming for you New Year 2017! Hope you’re ready!
